Awesome God
This weekend, I was pretty bummed about the computer theft, worried what the thieves would do with it, upset at myself because I didn't move it when I should have, etc. I knew it wasn't my fault; these things just happen. Friday and Saturday night, I couldn’t sleep well. Before I stretched out on Laan’s couch, I opened my bible to Matthew 6: 19 - 21, 25 - 30:
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”
I read this Friday and Saturday night, trying to take comfort in the words, in the assurance that God has given us: He will indeed take care of us. I walked across the street to church; it was a beautiful day, and I wanted some extra time to myself. Service started as usual: praise & worship, greeting, announcements. Then before Pastor Gil got up to speak, the trailer for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” played on the screen. Then Pastor Gil started talking about the treasure in our life (to listen, go to http://www.bfaog.org/ME2/Audiences/dirsect.asp?sid=0185D531972842E784EB001B8B4734D6&nm=eSermons and find the sermon on July 16, 2006) … the sermon was based on EXACTLY the same scripture I had been reading all weekend!
I took comfort in this. I knew that God was looking out for me and he would protect me from harm in all forms, if I just believe. How amazing is our God!?!
